After building a relationship with Barnardo’s YouthBuild throughout the duration of the project, we worked with them to find two suitable candidates for two weeks of work experience that had completed their construction skills course. The course aims to train young people in construction trades and ensure they are work ready with knowledge and skills to access employment, providing graduates of the course with a Level 1 certification in painting and decorating, plastering and tiling; a health and safety awareness certificate and CSCS card; first aid training; and employability skills.
From 4th to 15th October two young people from Lewisham joined us for a two-week placement to give them experience on a live construction site. The first week was mainly office based where they learnt about different disciplines from Balfour Beatty team members, attended project progress meetings, and undertook site visits. The second week was spent on site with our subcontractors, spending time with the logistics, drylining, façade and brickwork teams.
We really enjoyed having the work experience students with us and are looking forward to welcoming more students in November and December.
