To show the value the Lewisham gateway project is generating locally we are using the Social Value Portal; an independent measurement tool that draws upon data to provide the value for the activities that are taking place, such as apprenticeships or work experience placements.
Key highlights so far:
- 46 weeks worked by apprentices
- 47 weeks worked by graduates
- 3 young people gained work experience
- 2 career sessions delivered with Barnardo’s YouthBuild Academy
- 21 Lewisham residents employed
- 1 Meet the Contractor event (watch the video here)
- £2,000 donated to community projects
- £27,654,000 spent with local businesses
Using the Social Value Portal, the total additional value we have delivered is £30,625,598,81.
The infographics below show how we are performing against some of our targets. As the project progresses these values will increase.
Apprenticeships: We committed to employ 30 apprentices during the lifetime of the project. To date we have had three apprentices working with us, and as new sub-contractors are appointed this will increase.
Supporting young people into the Construction industry: So far we have worked with the Barnardo’s YouthBuild Academy taking part in two careers sessions and plan to develop this partnership as well as work with other schools and groups in the local area.
Local jobs created in Lewisham: We committed to provide employment for 90 local residents. All of our positions are advertised on the Lewisham Construction Hub. As the project develops the number of opportunities will increase.
Local spend within 40miles: We have spent £27,654,000 in the local economy, exceeding our original target of £17,900,000. We anticipate this value will continue to grow as we procure more works.
