Judith joined the Balfour Beatty team at the beginning of August as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor. We spoke to her about starting a new role after university and working on a project near where she lives.
What was your route into construction and how long have you been with Balfour Beatty?
I did an undergraduate degree in Quantity Surveying and I am now starting my fourth week as a Graduate QS.
What does a typical day look like?
I am mostly office based, with occasional site visits. I assist on various packages which I enjoy because no two days are exactly the same.
What is your favourite part of your role so far?
I love going out on site and seeing the things we work on in the office progress week by week and come to life.
Is there anything you are looking forward to?
Yes, as I grow and learn I am looking forward to taking lead on the subcontractor packages I’m currently assisting on.
Would you recommend your graduate scheme to others? Why?
I definitely would! I am given the perfect balance of support and independence so in the short space of time I have worked here I have learnt a lot and really built on the knowledge I gained from my degree.
What is it like working on a project close to where you live?
It’s nice to work on a project that will help enrich my local community and also makes for a much more sustainable commute!
